The President seems to be falling in the polls again. That was bound to happen. Been nothing to bring him up.

So now it's time for the State of the Union Address. That's where the President gives us all a pep talk and decides what he's going to focus on during the next year. Considering that everything he's focused on in the past has become a failure we're about to see what the term "kiss of death" means.

This years failures to be? Gas prices, health care, social security, the economy and Iraq. How do we know they will be policy failures. Because they're the same ones he tried last year.

Having failed to get anyone fired up over his crusade the fix Social Security by giving your social security money to private investors for "safeguarding" and having gotten everyone fired up by his failure to make his crusade in Iraq work, which was supposed to be paid for with money from Iraq'a oil instead of money from your pocket, the president now has a new crusade.

He is going to fix health care. And how is he going to do that you say?

Why by giving everyone a tax break that buys private health insurance. That will help all the people who can afford it to begin with. It will give them more money to spend somewhere else. It has nothing to do with health care but it will make them feel better and isn't that what health care is all about anyway.

And as for those that don't have health care to begin with because they can't afford it? This program will serve as an inspiration for them to work harder and get a better job so that they too can someday buy their own health insurance, get a tax break and feel better too.

This is also referred to as "Voodoo Economics Meets Health Care 101".

The Senate is calling for action on Iran. Seems they think the Iranians are building a nuclear bomb. Probably are. Everyone else does so it's not like it's something new. Once they get it they get to join America's "nuclear target of the month club" which I might add is not an enviable position to be in. After all we have enough spare "nukes" to incinerate the world about ten times over. Iran would take about 15 minutes.

But the call in the Senate is to stop Iran now by negotiations if possible or military action if necessary. We used to assume that meant airstrikes. Under the Bush Amendment to the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine it seems to mean invasion. Sooooo.......

All we need is more soldiers, armor, equipment, money, a plan to liberate the Iranians from the Iranians and the support of the American people for more nation building in another middle eastern desert where we can get more oil to pay for a war because someone might have a weapon of mass destruction. Sounds like a gameplan to me.

Any volunteers?

Good grief. Having just defended the Presidents right to subvert the Constitution on the basis that we need to be secure and therefore we can spy on our own people and torture others because he has been honestly elected by the majority of the people (without benefit this time of the Electoral College and the Supreme Court) I now find I may have erred again.

According to the Boston Globe the electronic voting machines made by a company called Diebold can be successfully hacked and winners can become losers and losers become winners without a trace of evidence to show that it was done. How do they know? Because they just did it in Florida. To prove their innocence the company in question refuses to comment thereby putting the matter to rest? What works for the President works for the President makers.

Having just encouraged the Canadian Prime Minister to turn over the Provinces to the United States so Canadians can pick up the First Amendment right of free speech I now have to learn that the President has authorized the National Security Agency to to conduct domestic surveillance without warrants and the government has effectively been illegally spying on Americans for the past three years.

What will the Administration think of next?

Well at least we still have honest and untainted elections for our President even if he does subvert the Constitution so I guess that makes it OK.

After all, you can't have security without securing someone, can you?

Well it seems after having run an election in Afghanistan and running an election about every month in Iraq, presumably until they get something right, we've moved on to correcting the other democracies that really have been doing it wrong all these years. Most specifically we're fixing the Canadians.

Seems our Ambassador is telling their Prime Minister what he can and cannot criticize in the upcoming Canadian Parliamentary elections. Most specifically he can't criticize the American government.

Of course if the Canadian Prime Minister were to become an American citizen then he could criticize the American government to his heart's content because we've got the First Amendment which gives him that protection. So it really is an easy issue to resolve. Canada merely has to turn over the provinces to Washington as new states thereby making them all Americans and then they too can experience the freedoms of American Democracy first hand.

But then he wouldn't be a Prime Minister anymore so it's probably not going to happen. Too bad. ........ It would be cheaper than sending the army.

Remember Monica Lewinski. She's the girl who used to be able to buy gas for under a dollar a gallon in the Bill Clinton Administration.

Seems hard to believe that six years ago gas was cheap, we hadn't invaded anyone and if and when we fought a war we only paid for our side of it. FEMA meant something besides Federal Enemic Messed-up Agency, interest rates were dropping, inflation was non existent and the President was only embarrassed instead of being an embarassment.

Ever wonder whatever happened to the "Good Old Days"?

That's easy. They were bought up by Halliburton.

Shifting Sands:

First the president said he would fire anyone in his administration who disclosed the name of a CIA operative to the press.

Now he says that "if someone committed a crime they will no longer work in his administration". Of course that implies they will have to be convicted first, which will tke about two years.

After the conviction it will be "anyone convicted of a crime and sentenced to jail cannot work in the administration if they lose their final appeal (by which time the administration won't be there either).

Appears Carl Rove couldn't be safer if he were in the arms of Jesus.

President Cheney....whoops, I mean vice President Cheney.....has given us the lowdown on our imminent victory in Iraq.

Obviously he has the inside track on such things what with him thinking for the President, but he should take time to explain it to General Abizaid who is our chief honcho in Iraq and who seemed dumbstruck by the revelation. Maybe that's because the closer you get to the explosions the more personal they seem to become and Dick having been in hiding for the past four years is a bit out of touch.

As I've said before, the man needs to get out of the bunker more often. Take a walk without his helmet on, talk to real people for a change, go on vacation in Baghdad. Or, in the alternative he could become a fiction writer.

Had given the weblog stuff a respite in the hopes that nothing would irritate me enough to start it up again and lo and behold, the draft dodging vice president who has been in hiding most of the last four years has to open his mouth and insult my intelligence. So it's back to work I go.

It seems that because he was an expert at helping Halliburton Corp. make money on government contracts for military prisons he now considers himself an expert on prisoner abuse. This time he's taken on Amnesty International for criticizing the United States and it's treatment of POW's at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Whether AI is right or wrong in their allegations remains to be seen, but apparently Mr. Cheney has been in hiding so long he hasn't heard about Abu Grahib.

Obviously the man needs to get out more. Maybe read a newspaper. Talk to a friend if he can buy one. Walk his dog. Become a mortician...... Enlist?..... Something......anything?
