American military strategy is predicated on the following philosophy developed over 250 years of experience:

1. To support vital American interests.
2. Have clearly defined military objectives.
3. Sufficient strength for an overwhelming and decisive victory.
4. Overwhelming support of the people and the Congress.
5. Commitment of troops should be a last resort after all political, diplomatic and economic efforts have failed.
6. Plan ahead and have an exit strategy.

Bush military experience is predicated on the following philosophy developed over 4 years of experience.

1. To support vital Halliburton interests.
2. Win. If you don't, redefine the definition of win.
3. Do it on the cheap. We're so good we can do it at half price with half the force.
4. All we need is God and the Republican Party on our side. No one else matters unless they have cash or oil.
5. Commitment of troops should come when anyone doesn't do what we tell them to do.......... yesterday.
6. What's a plan? Who's leaving?

Any Questions?

A full lunar eclipse! The Red Sox win the pennant! What's left to happen in the world that even comes close to this?

Well, how about the President privately admits to an unnamed source (but not for publication which is why we haven't heard it yet) that mistakes were made by someone, somewhere, someplace at sometime, but not on his watch that he knows about.

It's a start.

Vice President Cheney declared Iraq a "success" yesterday, ...................................................which leaves one to wonder what rock he's been under for the past year.

Iraq Today:
The water and lights still don't work most of the time, the Iraqi army and police have been infiltrated and are being blown up and executed daily, our army has a Fort Apache strategy, we have few if any backup troops and everyone is being extended in the "backdoor draft". The billions from Iraqi oil that were going to pay for the stuff we blew up so far have cost us about $200 billion with a $75 billion installment waiting in the wings, the government we installed in June doesn't like us much more than the rest of the country and the munitions that are being used to blow us up appear to have been stolen from us. We don't have any friends left in the world, our casualties top 1,100 with 8,000 wounded and Iraq has become the kidnap and beheading capital of the world not to mention the thousands of innocent dead Iraqi's.

We are there under false pretenses. There were no WMD's, nor is there any evidence that Iraq was going to have them anytime soon. They did not participate in 9/11 and could barely feed their own people and while Saddam Hussein was a bad person, so is "Dear Leader" Kim Jung Ill of North Korea. Why aren't we in Pongyang? Is it because he does have nuclear WMD's?

Hard to believe we could have a bigger screwup than the last Gulf War when we took our ball and went home and let Saddam come back and murder the people we "liberated" but then again, that was another "success" by the same management team. I would hate to contemplete what they would consider to be a failure.

Meanwhile, on the domestic front the vice President declared the economy to be a "success" yesterday................which leaves one to wonder if he knows what a rock is.

Terry (Theresa Hienz) Kerry, potential First Lady seems to have done it again. This time she's apologizing for having said former librarian and school teacher Laura Bush never worked a real job.

Whether she did or didn't, it was a dumb thing to say and the First Lady handled it well and with class.

For the rest of us, the delimma we have is that unfortunately we have to vote for her husband instead of her.

Don't you wish you lived in one of the showdown states like Florida or Ohio or Pennsylvania. You might see a presidential candidate if you did. Might even see an ad on your local tv station. If not, join the rest us us in the other forty two or so un-States that are on this trip for the ride only.

Want to know who to blame. You need to have talk with the Founding Fathers. They gave us the Electoral College.

Of course, the present argument that's put forward by supporters of the Electoral College is that it gets candidates to visit the smaller states that would otherwise be neglected. Little states like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

If you check in with James Madison (4th president and author of the Constitution) he will tell you the Electoral College was created as a compromise with southern states to offset their fears of domination by non-slave northern states.

Slavery has been gone for one hundred and thirty nine years......... but the "curse" that goes with it just goes on and on and on.

Afraid of getting the flu? Want the shot? Go to Canada. It's free.

OR, if you prefer,

Afraid of getting the flu? Want the shot? Go to France. They have it too and it's free.

Want the flu? Stay here. We don't have the vaccine but according to the President if we get it from the Canadians (who aren't supposed to send their defective medications across the border to us) or the French (who we've called everything but sane and who "forced" us to rename french fries "Freedom Fries") be prepared. They have it and say they will send it to us but when we get it, trust me, it won't be free. Arrogance and stupidity have a high price.

Bill O'Reilly, Fox News' outspoken critic of everybody but God (as long as God behaves appropriately) apparently has been out speaking to one of the female members of his news organization and what he seems to have said isn't too nice and she is sueing him for being a dirty old man. One has to assume that the plaintiff probably has a good case against Bill because he's not denying he said it and rumor is he's on tape.

But then his response is typical O'Reilly.

Rather than admit or deny allegations of sexual harassment he's gone on the offensive by sueing his alleged victim for putting too many zeros after the amount she is sueing him for. I thought that was a decision left to judges and juries but apparently not in Bill's World where right and wrong don't matter.

All that seems to matter is Bill.

Debate Statistic on the Economy: According to the President things are getting betterer.

News Statistic on the Economy: Less than a day after President Bush implied that Senator John Kerry lacked "fiscal sanity," the Bush administration said on Thursday that the federal government had hit the debt ceiling set by Congress and would have to borrow from the civil service retirement system until after the elections.

John Q. Public Reality Statistic on the Economy: Hello! Is anybody in there?

Just about everybody's upset over Senator Kerry's remarks about Dick Cheney's daughter in the debate last nite. The Senator says he was only trying to be polite. The vice-President says he was over the top. Mrs. Cheney says he is a bad man and probably believes he should be executed. The President and the White House are critical too and it probably didn't sit quite right with the general public though by tomorrow they won't remember it.

About the only person who isn't upset is John "Bubba" Doe who was sucking on a Bud while switching back and forth between the debate and the Yankees-Red Sox game. Didn't bother him any more than a triple play with the bases loaded in a tie game in the ninth. But then again, he's probably the guy it was intended for.

Well, we've survived the debates and the world hasn't ended, except perhaps for Red Sox fans who have a feeling of impending doom.

Next we are going to get a twenty day political barrage of negative ads, phone calls and spin literature that will attempt to undo all of the positives the debates seem to have brought to the process to the point that most of us will vote just to get it over with or wish we had never registered.

Fortunately the Electoral College does our voting for us so we don't have to take any of this too seriously or take responsibility for our decision.

But that's American Democracy. Noisy, contentious, and manipulative with a back door to the White House. And we wonder why people get turned off by politics.
