The Republicans start their 'dog and pony" show today in New York City. Seems a strange place for their convention unless they are hoping to convert the resident Sodomites and Gomorrans to the GOP cause. If so they'll have to wait until the natives are thru with their protests.

In the spirit of hospitality Mayor Blumberg is providing water, a warm welcome and facilities for the protesters and even supplying the buses to New Jersey to tranport them to the protest site. For those who don't want to go, Pennsylvania is an option.

If you're getting a feeling of "deja vou" it's because we all know the intended outcome. George W. Bush is going to be nominated to be Dick Cheney's running mate again. We all have a feeling the glitches in the voting machines are already glitched, the Electoral College is already loaded and ready to circumvent the electorate and the Supreme Court has researched the appropriate statutes to convict the challenger.

The "mental game" is already in motion. All that is left is for the Democrats to once again line up the firing squad for their candidate in a circle. So on to the convention and let the charade begin.

Multiple Choice Quiz:

According to the New York Times, in an interview the President now says:

A. he made some "miscalculations" on what conditions would be in post war Iraq.

B. he does not have the concerns about North Korea's growing nuclear arsenal that he once had about Iraq's WMD's despite the fact they are working on ICBM's that can hit the U.S.

C. of Iran & North Korea, "You don't give dictators timelines", despite having done exactly that for Iraq.

D. All of the above.

Answer: The correct answer is "D". Considering this is coming from the guy who couldn't recall having ever made a mistake you might think this would be a fatal political error.

It's not. It's your new foriegn policy.

It's kinder, gentler George W. Bush starring in "George the Diplomat" and he's coming to a convention near you real soon.

"Arnold" is selling off California to the highest bidder. Well, at least parts of it.

Seems Governor Schwarzenneger, having finally figured out that the state is out of cash is having a "Garage Sale" to sell off assets they no longer need. Everything from land to cars to paper clips is going in the fire sale. Some of it will even be on E-Bay.

Assuming the governor is throwing everything into the auction he doesn't think is necessary to run the state I'll be curious to see what the going rate is going to be for the "girlie men" from the state legislature. Not sure what anyone thinks they are going to do with one but I'd at least like to know what people think they're worth.

The Swift Boat veteran controversy seems to be continueing with both sides lining up veterans who support their candidate.

The Democrats rolled out (literally) veteran and former US Senator Max Cleland, minus the three limbs he lost in Vietnam, to confront the President and give him a letter, with his one remaining hand, asking him to condemn anti-Kerry veteran attack ads. The ads claim the Senator misrepresented his own military service record.

The President responded by sending out the Texas State Land Commissioner to receive the letter.

In response the White House now plans to roll out five time veteran draft exemption winner Dick Cheney, with all of his limbs, to confront Senator Kerry and give him a letter, with one hand behind his back, asking him to condemn anti-Bush veteran attack ads. The ads claim the President misrepresented his own military service record.

The Senator plans to respond by sending out the Massachussetts State Land Commissioner to receive the letter.

And you always wondered what Land Commissioners were good for?

The only justifiable purpose for war is to re-establish the peace.

If you have peace, no matter how flimsy, distasteful or oppressive you may believe it to be and you go to war to change the nature of the peace the result is always chaos, for war begets war.

Starting a war that undoes the peace in the name of bringing peace is like setting your neighbors apartment on fire because you don't like the furniture arrangement.

Changing the nature of the peace is not the purpose of war, that is the purpose of politics and an unjustified war is the tool of a political fool. Politics, power and patience pave the way to peace.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks and I guess it's true.

The Swift Boat thing seems to be hanging in there. Some retired Air Force Colonel who worked on the Bush campaign staff and probably never even knew what a Navy Swift Boat was appeared in one of those anti-Kerry 527 Swift Boat Ads. He just re-retired to avoid embarrassing the Bush campaign.

Having attacked John McCain's record in 2000 as an "unstable" POW to win an election our "unstable" President is going after John Kerry for being an "unstable" veteran for aggressively defending his record.

Seems like the pot is calling the kettle black and hoping you won't notice the difference.

Most of us are wishing by now that the Swift Boat controversy would swiftly depart.

It's pretty much degenerated into a duty evading national guard pilot
vs. a medal tossing veteran turned anti-war activist wrangling over who is going to make the best big shot.

Personally and with no disrespect meant to veterans it probably isn't the issue everybody thinks it is.

Draft dodger Bill Clinton beat two consecutive WWII heros in two consecutive elections and led the nation to a winning war in the Balkans without losing one American life and established a peace that holds to this day.

All of which goes to show that you don't have to play in the army to know how to run one.

Seems some poor 76 year old fellow in the state of Texas has been in jail for the past 40 years for a crime he didn't commit. Appears the sheriff tortured him into confessing he robbed a store and the state of Texas gave him a life sentence. Judge set him free.

If we had a perfect system run by perfect people this wouldn't be a problem. Then again, if we had perfect people, we wouldn't need a system.

Well, it was bound to happen. They can't find $8.8 BILLION that we sent to Iraq. They know it was sent because it's gone.

We don't have it. The Iraqi's never got it. Halliburton won't talk about it or let anyone see their books so that eliminates them. It just disappeared and no one has a clue where it went.

It's a curiosity, a puzzlement, maybe even magic. If it hadn't been lost between here and Iraq we could have probably given it to someone useful like a large international Texas based military-industrial company. Such is not to be.

I guess we will have to be content with the knowledge that somebody somewhere is happy. It just ain't you, me or the friendly folks in Iraq.

The big story today is not the war, not the economy, not the election. but that beer drinking bear out in Washington State that drank thirty six cans of beer at a campground.

Of course the joke is he preferred "Rainier" brand beer to "Busch" brand beer.

Personally I'm not that surprised. Not that many Republican bears in Washington State.
