Most of us are wishing by now that the Swift Boat controversy would swiftly depart.

It's pretty much degenerated into a duty evading national guard pilot
vs. a medal tossing veteran turned anti-war activist wrangling over who is going to make the best big shot.

Personally and with no disrespect meant to veterans it probably isn't the issue everybody thinks it is.

Draft dodger Bill Clinton beat two consecutive WWII heros in two consecutive elections and led the nation to a winning war in the Balkans without losing one American life and established a peace that holds to this day.

All of which goes to show that you don't have to play in the army to know how to run one.

Seems some poor 76 year old fellow in the state of Texas has been in jail for the past 40 years for a crime he didn't commit. Appears the sheriff tortured him into confessing he robbed a store and the state of Texas gave him a life sentence. Judge set him free.

If we had a perfect system run by perfect people this wouldn't be a problem. Then again, if we had perfect people, we wouldn't need a system.

Well, it was bound to happen. They can't find $8.8 BILLION that we sent to Iraq. They know it was sent because it's gone.

We don't have it. The Iraqi's never got it. Halliburton won't talk about it or let anyone see their books so that eliminates them. It just disappeared and no one has a clue where it went.

It's a curiosity, a puzzlement, maybe even magic. If it hadn't been lost between here and Iraq we could have probably given it to someone useful like a large international Texas based military-industrial company. Such is not to be.

I guess we will have to be content with the knowledge that somebody somewhere is happy. It just ain't you, me or the friendly folks in Iraq.

The big story today is not the war, not the economy, not the election. but that beer drinking bear out in Washington State that drank thirty six cans of beer at a campground.

Of course the joke is he preferred "Rainier" brand beer to "Busch" brand beer.

Personally I'm not that surprised. Not that many Republican bears in Washington State.

If you are one of the six people that has tuned in to the Olympics this week you've discovered that in some of the events the participants outnumber the spectators. Our basketball team thinks beating Greece by six points is a major victory and we didn't even send a baseball team.

Sad commentary and not the fault of the athletes. Think it must be the times.

Between being worried about being blown up by terrorists, couch-potatoed with 200 tv channels and stressed out with the pace of life in the fast lane we aren't taking time to smell the roses. In fact, we don't seem to have taken the time to plant many to begin with and some of us don't even know what a rose is. The rest don't care. They're too busy digging for gold in the garden.

Think we should all just take the year off, get out of the garden, clear our heads and pick things up again in 2006.

The President has decided to play soldier and move the army, again. This time he is taking them from Europe and moving them to,..... well, we're not sure where. He is also taking the army in Korea and moving some of them too. Again, not sure where. He does say he is not moving them to Iraq or Afghanistan. Apparently those missions are accomplished? And Korea is no longer run by a fruitcake with WMD's. And everyone loves everyone in the Balkans.

Rumor is he is sending the army to the next great threat and potential terrorist hotspot. John Kerry's campaign headquarters.
Might be a mistake. Rumored to be some Democrats in that army.

The President has announced that he favors a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marraiges. Says he doesn't agree with them, which is fair enough, but his reasoning for the amendment is that he doesn't want judges meddling in things that don't concern them. Like for instance, domestic relations.

Would prefer they meddle in things that concern him, like deciding who should be President again.

"The Donald" as Donald Trump likes to call himself is running around New York City firing young apprentices in front of the tv cameras as an abject lesson in how to be as successful as "The Donald is. His name, according to him, is synonymous with big business and big wealth and success.

He fails to mention the airline with his name on it that he flew into the ground in the 90's, the Atlantic City casino's with his name on them that almost went under about the same time and are about to go under again. Nor does he mention the bankers and investors who haven't fired him because they're financially in so deep they will go under with him.

So if you want to learn the real lesson of how to make money by "The Donalds" rules, ask "The Donald' to borrow some of his money that he borrowed from other people and can't pay back and see if "The Donald" lets you play in "his" game.

Senator Kerry now says he would still vote to go to war, but he would go about it "differently". Considering the present debacle that's a "no brainer".

My take is the president simply doesn't know his geography either, got confused again and mistakenly sent the army to "liberate" the wrong place.

He really meant to send them to Saudi Arabia.

After all, most of the 9/11 terrorists and their leader came from there (worked for invading Afghanistan).
They have buckets of oil that can be used to make the gas to fly the planes that became the 9/11 WMD's (there's your excuse).
AND .................we're already there (no more troops are necessary).

Declare victory, do nothing and bring the troops home for a parade.

Everybody wins. No shots are fired. The oil keeps coming. You keep your job................and we move on.

Now how you going to argue with that?

Well we're coming up on Electoral College season again.

That's where you get to cast your vote for a system that really doesn't believe in you or your vote to begin with.

Of course the argument that is advanced is that if we didn't have an Electoral College the candidates would only spend their time in the big states with the heavy concentrations of population and voters. The little states and those in the boondocks would be left to guess if there was even an election going on.

Which I guess explains why the presidential candidates are spending all their time shuttling between the Lilliputian states of Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio and are ignoring those political giants Rhode Island, Montana and North Dakota.
